    Description

Stock certificate for Universal Lock=Tip Co. for 250 shares
This beautifully engraved certificate for the Universal Lock=Tip Company was issued May 13, 1928.  This historic document has an ornate border with the image of an allegorical woman-warrior with an American flag and shield and and eagles with its wings spread.  It bears the signature of its President and Treasurer, William S. Gay.
The Federal Trade Commission filed Complaint No. 1578 against the Company in 1929, alleging unfair methods of competition, that patents with regard to its shoe lace tips were owned by Mr. Gay individually and not by Universal Lock=Tip Co. and thus the purchasers of shares in the Company would never make anything on their investment.
Subsequently, Mr. Gay and the Company were ordered to cease and desist in their activities.  Universal Lock=Tip Company (which apparently never did any business) went out of business shortly after the FTC's order was issued.
